The best AI training providers in the Netherlands in 2026: how to choose

29 October 2026

Looking for AI training in the Netherlands in 2026? There is plenty of choice. Universities, universities of applied sciences, training institutes, bootcamps and online platforms all offer something with AI. They differ widely in length, depth, price and recognition. This overview helps you choose. We are one of the providers ourselves, so we are clear about where we fit and where someone else fits better.

First: what do you want to achieve?

The best programme depends on your goal. Roughly there are four:

  • Use AI well in your current job. You want to use tools like ChatGPT, Copilot or AI agents effectively and safely. A short course of a day to a few weeks is enough.
  • Comply with the EU AI Act. Since February 2025 organisations must make sure staff who work with AI have sufficient AI literacy. An AI literacy course is the starting point.
  • Switch to a data or AI role. You want to become a data analyst, data scientist or AI engineer. You need a bootcamp or longer programme with projects you can show.
  • Earn a recognised qualification. Then look at a master's degree or a programme classified on the NLQF, the Dutch qualifications framework.

Types of AI training providers in the Netherlands

Type Examples Length Best for
University UvA, TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, JADS 1 to 2 years (master's) or short professional programmes Academic depth, research
Training institute Vijfhart, NCOI, LOI, Learnit 1 day to a few months A quick skill or certificate
Bootcamp Le Wagon, Ironhack, Amsterdam Data Academy 2 to 6 months Switching to a data or AI role
Online platform Coursera, edX, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning Self-paced Low-cost self-study
Free Nationale AI-cursus A few hours A first introduction (in Dutch)

Universities offer the most depth, but a master's requires a prior academic degree and one or two years. More and more universities also run short professional programmes for people in work.

Training institutes are strong in short, practical training, often a single day. That is fine as a first step. If you want AI to really stick in your work, you may miss practice and feedback over a longer period.

Bootcamps are built for career switchers. They are intensive and practical, with portfolio projects. The main difference is pace: full-time in two months, or part-time alongside your job.

Online platforms are flexible and affordable. You learn at your own pace, usually without a teacher who reviews your work. Disciplined learners can learn a lot; many people drop out halfway.

What to look for

  1. Does a teacher review your work? Feedback on real assignments is the difference between knowing and doing.
  2. Does the pace fit your life? Full-time is fast but hard to combine with work or family.
  3. What recognition do you get? A certificate from a registered institute says more than a badge. An NLQF classification shows employers the level you studied at.
  4. What does it really cost? Check VAT. Providers registered with CRKBO do not charge VAT.
  5. Can someone else pay? Think of your employer, the Dutch UWV or the SLIM subsidy for small and medium businesses.
  6. Do you work on real cases? A project for a real company is worth more on your CV than a practice dataset.

Where Amsterdam Data Academy fits

Amsterdam Data Academy is a private AI and data education institute at Science Park, Amsterdam. We have trained more than 2,500 people.

  • Three-week courses in AI literacy and ethics, working with AI (Copilot), prompt engineering, AI agents and more. Each course is about 24 hours of study with an assessed final assignment. From €995, or €750 per person for teams.
  • 18-week part-time bootcamps, such as Data & Analytics, Data Science, Applied AI and AI Engineering. A weekly live session, online or at Science Park, and a final project for a real company. From €4,495.
  • A diploma at NLQF Level 6, comparable to bachelor level. The Applied AI & Data Science Diploma is the first private AI diploma programme classified at this level.
  • CRKBO-registered with the NRTO quality mark, so no VAT. Contracted by UWV, and SLIM subsidy is possible for SME employers.

We fit if you want to learn alongside your job, with a teacher and a fixed weekly session, and want to apply AI in your field or switch careers.

Someone else fits better if you want a one-day introduction (choose a training institute), want to retrain full-time as fast as possible (choose a full-time bootcamp) or want an academic master's (choose a university).

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI course for beginners? Start with a short course in AI literacy or working with AI. You learn what AI can and cannot do and how to use it safely. Then decide whether to go further.

Is an online course on Coursera enough? For self-directed learners it can be. You miss a teacher who reviews your work, and courses are generic rather than tailored to the Dutch market. See Dutch alternatives to Coursera.

How long does it take to switch to data or AI? With a bootcamp you can be ready for a first role in two to six months, depending on the pace.

Does my organisation have to provide AI training? Since February 2025 the EU AI Act requires organisations to ensure sufficient AI literacy among staff who work with AI. Read our buyer's guide to in-company AI training.
